July 12, 2011

So since Hunter was about 6 months old we have had major issues with his drainage and ears filling up with fluid. We have had 2 sets of tubes put in since then which have made a HUGE difference. We were still having trouble with the mucus that he was producing and like every other parent we just thought well he has allergies. Well then we were thinking would he really have allergies ALL YEAR LONG. We started asking questions and low and behold....... we were wrong. It is not allergies at all. He has over sized tonsils and swollen adenoids. The poor kids body is making to much snot and then the tonsils are not letting it drain properly. So not only could he not swallow it and he would choke on it but there was so much that it was irritating his his throat.
So we did the next step- we went back to see his nose ear and throat doctor. He agreed that the only way to solved Hunter's issues was to remove tonsils and adenoids. There are 3 risks. 1. Dehydration- because they tend to stop drinking because it hurts so bad. This was a 10% change of it happening to Hunter He is typically a good drinking- 6-8 glasses of something a day 2. Excessive bleeding- this was only a 3% chance of this happening to Hunter. 3. Going under there are always risks- Doctor didn't think this was an issue because he has already done it twice and he handled it fine. They don't typically like to do it on kids his age but the youngest he had done was a year and a half.
So now we had the doctors approval that this would be the best thing for Hunter. So Cody and I talked about it and we have decided that this would be the best thing for Hunter. Wyatt had his adenoids taken out around Hunter's age and it has made a HUGE difference. So on July 12th we will once again be going into surgery. This one a little more serious but hopefully in the end it will be successful and help Hunter get through all the SNOT :D.
Here is a little trivia for you. You actually do not use your adenoid or tonsils after the age of 12 months. So really we are taking something out that he does not use any more that is causing a LOT of issues for the little guy. So please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as we go through this one more time- hopefully the last time. We will keep you posted on how it goes :Ds
