When it comes to kids, I am usually totally understanding and loving. I am a teacher for God Sake! That is what I do all day 5 days a week. I am pretty laid back when it comes to kids because I know that parents are not what they used to be. Typically, if I see a kid needing help with something or is lost I help them in a heart beat. Ok I will get down to the story here about the devil child at the park last night.
Wyatt wanted us to come pick him up for an evening so we did. We went out to eat and went to the park which my kids LOVE. They were playing and as usual- Hunter went straight for the swings. There was another little girl in the swing next to him and naturally he starts to talk to her and they are having their own conversation. This little girl (cute as could be might I add) is playing on the structure. I see no parents around or even wondering where she is. There was a group of middle school or high school kids on a picnic bench being normal teenagers but that was it. This girl had to be maybe 3 years old. She starts yelling at Hunter that that is HER swing. I ignored her and she started yelling " THAT IS MY SWING>>> GET OUT! I was like really? So we continued to swing. Pretty soon (still no parents) she was by my side telling me to take Hunter out of her swing. It was not in a playful or sweet voice either. In fact, the other mother was like WHAT?!?! I simply told her she had to wait her turn. She told me NO GET HIM OUT OF MY SWING. I told her again that when we were done she could swing. She glared at me and picked up a stick- I knew where this was going but I just watched her to see if I was right. YEP!!! I was she was trying to hit Hunter. I jerked the stick out of her hand and got to her eye level and told her firmly that she will NOT hit my son or any other kid that this was NOT her swing and to go on. Thankfully she did. For now, later we were back in the swings and there was one open, she came over and demanded I put her in the swing. When I told her no, she told me NOW! I was like what. I told her to go get her daddy ( which was finally around) and he could push her in the swings. He must have heard me because he came over and she talked to him that same way! I wish I could express how she was talking to us!
We stayed away from her the rest of the time! I have never had something like that happen before!! That is why we need to get our play set up so we don't have to go to the parks with the mean devil children!!!
Yes, this sounds all too familiar...it is so common for us to see kids running around at the park with no parents in sight! What drives me crazy is the pre-teen kids that run ALL over the playground equiptment designated for babies/toddlers, it's so dangerous and i so badly want to confront them about it sometimes bc they come so close to plowing over my babies! we need park police! ;)
ReplyDeleteTotally agree except I have asked them to move on. I have no problem in getting in their face and asking them to leave the park. It is rediculous that they are there in the first place. I just simply say I would hate to sue you because you hurt my child. They move on pretty quick. Also teens that come to the park to fondle each other!!! Seriously my 2 year old does not need to see that. They do need police officers to patrol the parks more.
